Czech motorway vignette 2026: prices, where to buy, rental cars

Czech motorway vignette 2026: CZK prices for 1, 10, 30 days and a year, where to buy on eDalnice, rental-car plate rules and fines.

Czech Motorway Vignette 2026: Prices and Rules

For a passenger car on Czech toll motorways you need an electronic vignette. You buy it for the car's registration plate on the state e-shop edalnice.gov.cz. In 2026 it costs CZK 230 for 1 day, CZK 300 for 10 days, CZK 480 for 30 days and CZK 2,570 for a year. This is the price list valid from 1 January 2026, checked on 24 October 2026. At Masons, vignettes and tolls are paid by the renter.

The vignette is not a sticker. It is a record kept under the plate number in the state vehicle register, and your payment confirmation is the proof. That one fact explains most of the rules below: the plate must be right, and a vignette cannot be moved to another car.

Where to buy it, and where not to

The official channel is the e-shop on edalnice.gov.cz. It works on a computer and on a smartphone. The steps are short:

  1. Enter the country of registration and the plate number.
  2. Select the fuel type, or let the vehicle register fill it in.
  3. Choose the vignette type and the start date.
  4. Enter your contact details and check the summary.
  5. Pay by card or bank transfer. A confirmation arrives by email.

You can also buy at a sales point: Czech Post branches, EuroOil and RoBiN OIL petrol stations. Self-service kiosks stand mainly in the border areas before toll roads and take only cashless payments. The state site advises against buying from any other merchant, so ignore search advertisements that only look official. Read how to buy on the state site before you pay.

If you pay by bank transfer, choose a start date that leaves time for the money to arrive. The terms require the payment to be credited before the validity starts.

2026 prices and what they mean for a trip

The official price list is valid from 1 January 2026. The table shows the standard-fuel rate that applies to an ordinary petrol or diesel car.

VignetteStandard fuel
1 dayCZK 230
10 daysCZK 300
30 daysCZK 480
1 yearCZK 2,570

The same list has lower rates for some fuel types: biomethane, natural gas (CNG and LNG, not LPG) and plug-in hybrids with CO2 emissions of up to 50 g/km. Electric and hydrogen cars are at CZK 0. For a Czech-registered car, the shop offers only the vignette the vehicle is entitled to, according to the vehicle register. You do not choose a cheaper rate yourself.

A little arithmetic from the official prices helps with the choice. Two 1-day vignettes cost CZK 460, more than one 10-day vignette at CZK 300. Three 1-day vignettes cost CZK 690, more than a 30-day vignette at CZK 480. A 1-day vignette is valid for the calendar day until 23:59:59, not for 24 hours. If your drive starts in the evening and continues after midnight, a 1-day vignette will not cover it.

Prices can change. Open the price list on the day you buy and compare it with this table.

A rental car: buy it for the plate

The vignette belongs to the vehicle's plate, not to the driver. Payment is recorded under the plate and the country of registration. Once the validity has started, it cannot be transferred to another vehicle. That has four practical consequences for a rental.

  • Use the rental car's plate. Do not enter your own car's plate or an old one from a previous rental. Read the plate from the rental confirmation or from the car at handover.
  • Buy before the toll road. The terms say a toll road may be used only after the vignette is paid, before entering. Buying a few days ahead is allowed, because the start date can be up to 30 days after payment.
  • A different car means a new check. If the team gives you another car, the vignette bought for the first plate stays with the first car. Confirm the plate before you pay.
  • Ask what is already arranged. At Masons, vignettes and tolls are always at the customer's expense; the company does not pay them. Before you buy, ask the team for the car's plate. You can check any plate on the state site: it shows whether a valid vignette is recorded.

If you have bought a vignette twice for the same car and the same period, the state allows a refund of the duplicate within three years of the purchase. The handling fee is CZK 75 and the request must come from a natural person. See the refund rules. That is a safety net for mistakes, not a reason to skip the check.

Our rental terms set out who pays tolls and fines, and our guide to renting a car in Prague lists the documents. For a motorway trip with luggage, look at an SUV from our SUV rental page, for example the Mercedes-AMG G63 or the BMW X5 M. Whichever car you choose, the vignette is bought separately for its plate.

If you entered the wrong plate

Keep the authorisation code from the payment confirmation. It opens the Vignette Management section of the state site. The terms allow these corrections:

  • Before the validity starts, you can change the plate or the country of registration once.
  • Before the validity starts, you can also change the start date, if the new start is not earlier than the day of the change and not more than 30 days after the payment.
  • During the validity, up to two characters of the plate or the country can be changed once. The number of characters must stay the same, and you give up claims against the fund for that change.
  • At a sales point, a correction is possible only within 15 minutes of payment, and only at the same sales point.
  • Kiosks cannot change data.

A plate change for the same vehicle, for example after a new plate is issued, has its own procedure. A vignette cannot be moved to another vehicle, so a wrong plate that belongs to a different car is not a "typo": it needs a new purchase.

Checks and penalties

Police and Customs officers check vehicles by scanning licence plates. The state page on inspection names three ways: patrol cars with plate-scanning cameras on the toll road, connected control gates, and checks at rest stops and parking lots.

For a driver found on a toll road without a valid vignette, the same page states a fine of up to CZK 20,000. The page gives the upper limit only, so we do not state a fixed amount. Other fines on the page concern exemption notices and do not apply to an ordinary rental.

You can check any plate for a valid vignette on the state site, using the country and plate number. Do it once after buying, with the plate from the rental confirmation. If the result shows the right dates, you are covered.

At Masons, tolls, vignettes, parking charges and traffic fines are the customer's responsibility, and official notices go to the driver named in the rental agreement.

Outside Czechia

A Czech vignette is valid only on Czech toll roads. For a trip to Vienna, Austria has its own system. Our guide Prague to Vienna by car explains the permission your rental needs and where to check the Austrian vignette. The wider question of tolls, trucks and city access is in tolls in Czechia.

Before you drive

  1. Take the plate and country from the rental confirmation.
  2. Open the official price list and note the price for your number of days.
  3. Choose the start date so that it covers the whole trip, including the return.
  4. Keep the payment confirmation and the authorisation code.
  5. Check the plate on the state site once after payment.

Questions before you go

How much is the Czech motorway vignette for a car in 2026?

For a standard-fuel passenger car, the official price list valid from 1 January 2026 gives CZK 230 for 1 day, CZK 300 for 10 days, CZK 480 for 30 days and CZK 2,570 for a year. Check the list on the day you buy.

Can I buy a vignette for a rental car, and can I move it to another car?

Yes, buy it for the rental car's plate. Once the validity has started, it cannot be transferred to another vehicle. At Masons the vignette is at the renter's expense, so confirm the plate with the team before you pay.

When does the vignette start and end?

You choose the start date at purchase: not before payment and not later than 30 days after it. Validity runs from the start day to 23:59:59 of the last day. A 1-day vignette is valid only until the end of that calendar day.

What if I entered the wrong plate?

Before the validity starts, you can change the plate or the country once in Vignette Management with the authorisation code. During the validity, up to two characters can be changed once. At a sales point, you have 15 minutes.

What happens if I drive on a toll motorway without a vignette?

Police and Customs scan plates, and the state page states a fine of up to CZK 20,000 for the driver. Only the upper limit is published there. At Masons, fines are the customer's responsibility.

Does the Czech vignette cover Austria?

No. It is valid only on Czech toll roads. For Austria, check the Austrian system and your rental's written permission for the trip.
