About the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S is a black four-door coupé for four people, the car to hire for long journeys: to another city, to a meeting with business partners or for a weekend with a full boot. It has 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, rear doors like a saloon and a large tailgate, so getting in and loading up are both easy.

It suits a small group that wants to cover several hundred kilometres in one car with no transfers, and companies taking guests to meetings. It is the only four-door coupé in the Masons premium car hire fleet: the other fast cars for four are either conventional saloons or coupés where rear passengers squeeze in past a front seat.

What the GT 63 S is good for

Four people to another city. Four friends fly into Prague and want to add two days in Munich or Vienna. The train means dragging suitcases along platforms; two cars mean two drivers and two parking spaces. They collect the GT 63 S at the airport, the luggage goes in the boot and everyone has their own seat for the whole trip.

A business trip with partners. Nobody has to climb past the front seats, jackets and laptops go in the boot, navigation and calls run from your phone via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and the Burmester sound system handles the music. The car can be waiting at your partners' hotel in the morning, so a meeting in Plzeň, Dresden or Munich starts without a taxi or a train timetable.

A weekend with luggage. Two couples head to the mountains or the lakes, each with a bag, plus boots and jackets. The tailgate lifts together with the rear window, so bulkier things are easy to stow. All-wheel drive means rain or the first snow will not cancel the trip.

In practice: seats, luggage and drive

The two rear seats are for adults, each with its own door. The roof slopes down towards the boot, so taller passengers may find headroom tight; on a long trip, put them in the front, or try the seats when you collect the car. The boot opens with a large tailgate and takes soft bags and smaller suitcases for four people for a weekend. The 4MATIC+ system sends power to all the wheels, which you will appreciate on a wet motorway, on fallen leaves and on a snowy road up to a mountain hut.

Under the bonnet is a four-litre twin-turbo V8 with 639 hp, running on petrol; on a long route, plan fuel stops more often than you are used to. The GT 63 S is a long, wide car: keep out of the lanes of the Old Town and Malá Strana unless you have to, look for wider spaces in underground car parks and take ramps slowly. The 360° camera helps when parking. Prague's blue zones allow limited paid visitor parking; check the sign and time limit and pay online. For longer stays, choose a suitable garage or P+R car park.

Where to take the GT 63 S from Prague

To Munich, about 4 hours' drive. Take the D5 motorway past Plzeň to the Rozvadov border crossing, then the German motorway through the Upper Palatinate towards Regensburg and on south. It is a long motorway run that makes full use of the space for four, the boot and all-wheel drive in any weather. Break the journey in Plzeň, or wait until Regensburg, where you can walk across the Stone Bridge over the Danube and have lunch in the old town. In Munich, leave the car in your hotel's garage or at a P+R car park and take the U-Bahn into the centre. Trips to Germany must be agreed with our manager in advance.

GT 63 S or BMW M5 Hybrid?

Both cars have four doors and all-wheel drive, and both handle a long trip for four. Take the GT 63 S if there are four of you and you want a low coupé with a large tailgate and a pure petrol V8. The BMW M5 Hybrid is a conventional saloon with five seats that can drive quietly on electricity in town. It makes sense if you will drive a lot in Prague, need a fifth seat or want to leave your hotel without engine noise. Both suit Munich or Vienna; the choice comes down to how many of you are going and how long you will spend in the city.

GT 63 S: frequently asked questions

Can I pick up the GT 63 S at the airport?

Yes. We can deliver the car to Václav Havel Airport or to another address in Prague, for example the hotel where your guests are staying, at a time and place fixed when we confirm the booking.

Can I take the GT 63 S to Germany or Austria?

Yes, trips abroad are possible once agreed in advance with our manager. At the booking stage you will hear which countries are covered and what the conditions are, including the deposit. Austrian motorways also require a vignette.

Is the back comfortable for adults?

Yes, the two rear seats are meant for adults and you get in through the rear doors. The limit is the sloping roof: a tall passenger may have their head close to the headlining. Try the seats when you collect the car and decide who sits where.

How much luggage fits in the boot?

The large tailgate lifts with the rear window, which makes loading easy. Soft bags or smaller suitcases are enough for four people for a weekend; four large suitcases for a week will be a squeeze. For skis or bikes, an estate or an SUV from our fleet is a better fit.

Is the GT 63 S suitable for a trip of several days around Europe?

Yes, long journeys are what it is for. The comfortable seats, all-wheel drive and Burmester sound system come into their own on the motorway. Expect more frequent fuel stops, and agree any route outside the Czech Republic in advance.
